A) Determining the number of lambs
Ultrasound is performed about 35 to 40 days after the start of mating, during which time the ewes are pregnant and the number of lambs is determined.
If animals with more than one lamb are identified, additional feeding and calving management can be used.
In order to determine the cattle, it is necessary that at least 4 weeks have passed since the ram left the herd, and if the ram is present in the herd, the ultrasound should be repeated.
B) Pregnancy stage
By analyzing and examining the image obtained from ultrasound, the age of the lamb and the time of birth can be determined. For example, it was determined that one ewe would give birth in less than a month and another ewe would not give birth for the next three months. This information is used to manage calving and prevent lamb mortality in the pasture, as well as the possibility of additional feeding for heavily pregnant ewes.
C) Livestock preparation
With this method, pregnancy diagnosis does not require special equipment and it is enough not to feed the animals 12 hours before the ultrasound. Sheep are standing and scanned without stress.
